At The Drake Center, it’s no surprise our families are a bit…furry. From dogs and cats to horses, chickens and an emu, we’d like you to meet the loves of our lives—our pets.

If you had to choose, would you say you are a cat person or a dog person? Why?
I am a dog person. I love the way they act when they sleep. My dogs run in their sleep and will bark like they are chasing something.
How did you get your pets? Why did you choose those particular breeds?
Half of my dogs came from shelters and half I found wandering on the streets. I choose pit bulls because they are often so neglected and misunderstood. I also love their big heads!
What is special about your pets?
Each of them have different backgrounds. Beba was given to me by a friend that couldn’t afford her, Milo had two broken legs when I found him and Tank, Truck and Ford were all runts of the litter.
What is the cutest thing about your pets, physically?
Beba has a cute purple tongue.
Chico looks like he has a mustache.
Milo has a black spot under his tongue.
Tank and Truck are twins from the same litter.
Ford’s fur looks like the inside of a Snickers bar!
What do you let your pets get away with that you probably shouldn't?
They sleep in my bed when they should be sleeping in their kennels.
What is your favorite memory or story about your pets?
Truck and Tank were playing with Darwin, a dog I was pet sitting, when another dog came charging at him. Truck jumped in front of Darwin and protected him by growling at the other dog. Truck and Tank were like his bodyguards!
What do your pets bring to the dynamic of your family?
They complete us. Each of us have different personalities and so do they, which makes our family unique!
