Well, it is truly the end of an era...With heavy hearts and beautiful memories, this will be the final "Binky's Blog". He was such a beautiful cat, that meant so much to the staff here at The Drake Center, and clients alike. Thank you to everyone who has sent cards, flowers, messages, and donations on behalf of Binky Drake.

Ode to Binky... my soul mate

Binky is the closest thing to an animal soulmate I have ever had in my life.  We understood one another.  I always felt that he was there for me and was very giving with his love.   He always knew who he was and was authentic in every way.

He was tough but generous.  He was a bit entitled but mostly deserving.  He was super smart and had a very high psychic IQ.  He figured people out very quick.  He asked a lot but was willing to share ….as long as you were not fearful.  He did not like fear in people and had no patience for it.

He was a very proud animal.  So regal.  He loved everyone at the Drake Center and tolerated most of us.

He was so brave and fearless.  No dog was too big or tough to push around Binky.  They all walked around him cuz they knew he was not afraid.  He was tolerant and gentle with puppies unless they were rude and then he slapped them.

He loved the front staff because they had time and enjoyed indulging him in the morning.  He loved the back staff because they cared for him and treated him with respect.  He relaxed with Chris and the doctors.  He loved to greet everyone in the morning and remind us why we were at the Drake Center.  He loved his morning routine with the front staff.  He loved to flop next to me in the morning and he loved to greet Chris and boss her around every morning.

He had many favorite hang outs depending upon his mood.

He was very happy living at the Drake Center.  It was the right amount of space, respect, love and care that he needed and loved.

Thank you all for the love and care that you gave to Binky.  I hope you felt the love he had for you in return.

"We wanted to express what I am sure you already know: he was a special guy.

Binky’s little hi-jinks were- on occasion- cause for a bit concern among the staff but to the rest of us he was very amusing. His rather regal bearing and possessive attitude around the office was fun to see, and then to hear of whatever antics he had been up to was highly entertaining.

I know he will be very missed by all of you, but he really touched those of us who only saw him occasionally--- and we really miss him too"

This was my routine with Binky every morning:

I'd walk around turning on all of the computers - Binky would follow me"Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. Once I was done with that, he had to have his morning lovin". Bug hug and pets. He would let me know when HE was done; usually with a love bite. Then off to the front desk, where I lay him down & I had to knead him like a big loaf of bread - both sides, with a purpose. He didn't like it if you did it to easy. After that, I would spin him around on the floor a couple of times. Then, he was done. I miss him, he was a very special boy.

“Binky, or Bunkers as I called him, was one of the coolest cats I have ever met. He had an attitude about him that made people fall in love with him even when he was sassy. Bunkers and I had many moments together, but my favorite of them was when I learned he liked Magic Carpet Rides.

In the mornings he would, as usual, come up front with his “orders”. Then he would sit on the floor mats, blocking my attempts to get the office open and organized.

One day I decided to just pull the carpet around to the front with him on it. When I stopped- he gave me a look like, “that’s it?” From that day forward, I would ask, “Bunkers, Magic Carpet Ride?”-and he would walk up to the front, plop down on the carpet and away we would go. I will miss you Bunkers. Thank you for my treasured moments.

Binky,

I will always remember you sleeping on the desk above my computer and then jumping down onto my keyboard as I was typing. I will miss your silly meow and your demands for attention over the last 5 years. You were definitely a unique and special cat. You were fearless and brave. You will be missed.

"Binky gave the best kitty hugs. My desk was one of the first stops on his daily rounds, which meant my days often started with a large dose of Binky love (who could’ve asked for anything better?). I’ll always remember how squeezable he was and the sound of his purring in my ear."

"Binky loved to be on my chair.  There was 1 day when I was doing office work and spent most of the day at my desk.  I had to get up and go to the copy machine and Binky was on the other end of the hallway past the machine. He looked at me, then my desk and RAN down the aisle to get to my chair. (Binky did not run typically - too cool for that.  He sauntered). It was so deliberate that I did other stuff so he could enjoy his victory."

"I will never forget starting my first week at the hospital. Binky definitely showed me that he was the real boss around here. After he knew that I respected him, he would often find amusement in harassing me at my desk. He would lay across my keyboard and give me warning bites if I dare stopped paying attention to him and try to get back to work. Often he would sit on my desk and stare at me while I was working- I would joke that my 'boss is a micromanager'. Binky, your presence is and will be missed around here."
