Feliway
Have you ever seen your cat rubbing against the furniture or walls? Cats often do this to mark their territory as a safe place and stimulate feelings of calm and comfort, leaving a facial pheromone behind.
Feliway is a synthetic copy of this pheromone. It is used primarily to help cats cope with stressful situations or changes in their environment.
At The Drake Center, you may have noticed that we use a Feliway diffuser in our cat-only exam room to help our feline patients feel at home and keep them relaxed and comfortable during their visit.
In addition to its use in the veterinary hospital, Feliway can be used to manage a number of stress-related behaviors in your cat at home, as well as situational stress and anxiety. These include:
- Vertical scratching or spraying
- Inappropriate elimination (urinating or defecating outside the litter box)
- Changes in the household, such as moving, remodeling or the arrival of a new baby or pet
- Traveling or boarding
Feliway MultiCat
Feliway MultiCat is specifically formulated to manage stress in multiple cat households using a synthetic copy of a different pheromone naturally produced by a mother cat after birth and during lactation. This pheromone naturally comforts the kittens and helps them bond. In addition, it provides a calming effect that cats can recognize throughout life.
Feliway MultiCat can be used in homes with two or more cats to reduce:
- Social tension and conflict
- Redirected aggression or bullying
- General stress and anxiety
